Get the chance to exhibit your work, win monetary prizes and become part of an enduring legacy. This is the perfect opportunity for emerging or established photographers to get recognised by a renowned jury comprised of individuals who have a long history with architectural photography.
The “Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Competition | A Contemporary Look at Architecture” is a prestigious platform for photographers worldwide to showcase their artistic interpretations of architecture through the lens of one of Portugal’s most celebrated architectural photographers.
Held biennially, this competition honours Luis Ferreira Alves, whose work bridged the analogue and digital eras and captured the essence of Portuguese architectural brilliance, including iconic projects by Pritzker Prize laureates Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto de Moura.
This competition invites participants to explore the dynamic interplay between architecture and photography, encouraging submissions that reflect both the “objective” documentation and the “subjective” artistic expression that defined Alves’ perspective.
With support from renowned institutions such as the Porto City Council, Casa da Arquitectura, and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, as well as global brands like CIN, Canon and BPI, the competition ensures not only significant exposure but also a rich cultural dialogue. Winners gain recognition through exhibitions, press coverage, a curated catalogue and inclusion in academic and cultural discussions on architectural photography.
Aspiring and professional photographers alike are encouraged to participate in this unique initiative, which goes beyond a competition: it celebrates architecture’s visual and cultural narratives. From capturing the essence of urban landscapes to interpreting architectural spaces with a contemporary lens, participants will contribute to a global conversation inspired by Luis Ferreira Alves’ enduring legacy.
