The LFA Talks podcast is based on conversations with participants in the LFA Award, whether they are the award-winning authors or jury members and other guests. More than a space for dissemination, the LFA Talks podcast establishes itself as a platform for thought around architectural photography as a critical practice, a form of interpretation, and an instrument of cultural mediation between architecture, territory, and the experience of built space.
Each episode of the LFA Talks podcast is a conversation with one or more participants of the LFA Prize (Luis Ferreira Alves) — award-winning authors, jury members, and other guests. The conversation is moderated through prior research on the topic under discussion, as well as taking into account the guests’ careers and work, and the conceptual framework of the prize itself.
The conversations aim to reflect on how photography is conceived, practiced, and mobilized in contemporary architecture. Based on the objectives and philosophy of the LFA Prize, a structured set of episodes is presented, conceived as spaces for critical reflection and dialogue, articulating the guests’ careers and practices with central themes aligned with the legacy of Luis Ferreira Alves.

A conversation with Hélène Binet on her path to constructing a distinctive visual language through the concepts of light, matter, fragment and silence. In this episode we explore Binet’s main influences, and the ability of photography to slow down perception and resist the standardization of contemporary visual culture. Working slowly with a large-format analogue camera Binet approaches buildings piece by piece: examining how they are made, why they affect us, and what kind of image might be appropriate to a new architectural language.

A conversation with Pedro Leão Neto about the challenges facing contemporary architectural photography and the place of an attentive, slow and conscious gaze in a context shaped by technological acceleration and visual saturation. The episode considers the possibilities opened up by sophisticated cameras, drones, post-production and artificial intelligence, as well as the risks of standardisation and detachment from the sensory experience of space. Through the legacy of Luis Ferreira Alves, it reflects on intuition, observation and authorship, and on the difficult translation of depth, scale, atmosphere and time into a two-dimensional image, understanding photography as interpretation and as a critical territory for architecture.

A conversation with Pedro Leão Neto about the philosophy behind the Luis Ferreira Alves Award, its evaluation criteria, and the impact of its first edition. Taking Luis Ferreira Alves’s legacy and his understanding of architecture as lived experience as a starting point, the episode considers the Award as a critical and cultural platform built around coherent, poetic and critical photographic series. It also reflects on visual narrative, the phenomenological experience of space, technical and artistic quality, originality and conceptual clarity, as well as the institutional and international network that supports the Award and extends its reach.

A conversation about the origins of the Luis Ferreira Alves Prize and how the photographer’s memory continues to resonate in the present. Through Catarina Providência’s recollections and Pedro Leão Neto’s reflections, we revisit Luis Ferreira Alves’s human, cultural and photographic journey, his distinctive way of seeing Portuguese architecture, and his close relationship with some of its leading figures. The episode also considers the Prize as an act of continuity and international projection, affirming photography as a space for thought, interpretation and a critical culture of the image.
